The Vice President for Legal Affairs, Patricia C. Ohlendorf, is the chief legal officer and chief governmental relations officer of the University and has general responsibility for the management of interfaces with the Board of Regents, The University of Texas System, state and local governmental and quasi-governmental entities, the state legislature, and federal governmental representatives and entities on issues of federal legislation and regulations.

The Office of the Vice President for Legal Affairs provides advice and support on University related legal issues and activities; assists in the development and implementation of related policies, guidelines, and training; and assists in the coordination of litigation and other activities with the UT System Office of General Counsel. This office reviews and interprets UT System and UT Austin policies and rules, state and federal laws, and other guidelines.
