Overview of the Utilities and Energy Management Training Program

Training

Job Skills Based Training Program

Goal of the Program: Distinguish the department as the best-trained university utility in the United States

PRIMEDIA

The first aspect of the program is the PRIMEDIA interactive CD-ROM, which can be completed by checking out a notebook computer or by logging on to the Course Management System (CMS) from your shop or office computer. These PRIMEDIA modules have been selected because they contain knowledge that is needed for industry-standard certification. They consist of two different types of modules: one type concerns safety; the other type consists of Industry Standard training. Please do the safety training first.

You will be given the opportunity to “test out” of the PRIMEDIA modules with a score of 70% on the pretest. If you do not pass the pretest, you must go through the entire module and pass the posttest with a score of 80%. You will have two opportunities to pass the posttest. After two failed attempts at the posttest, the software will lock you out of that specific module.

If you do not wish to attempt to test out, you may certainly go through each individual PRIMEDIA module from the beginning.

SITE-SPECIFIC TRAINING

The second component of this training is the Site-Specific training. This module-based training is related to the site-specific tools and equipment that your job title involves. A company called Industrial Resources Inc. (IRI) created the training based upon study of our procedures and interviews with many of our employees. It is therefore "tailor-made" for us.

  • Job Performance Measure: In order to complete the site-specific training you will have to complete an assessment tool called the Job Performance Measure (JPM) for specific equipment or tools while in the presence of your supervisor for each module. When completed, your supervisor will certify that you have completed the training and the JPM.

  • Final Exam: The last aspect of the program will be the final exam. The exam will be generated from software acquired through IRI and administered by The Utilities and Energy Management Safety Office.

TIME ALLOWED FOR COMPLETION: You must complete the training for your present job before moving on to training for any other titles. You will be allowed 18 months to do so.
