Division of Student Affairs

Where Life and Learning Intersect

Vision

The Division of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin seeks to become the premier organization of its kind. We envision an expanded network of top programs and services to meet students’ out-of-classroom needs while complementing their academic goals. Student Affairs also seeks to build and support an inclusive campus community that promotes diversity of people, ideas, and opportunities. In accomplishing these goals, we contribute to the success and development of our students as global citizens and strong leaders.

Mission

The Division of Student Affairs facilitates students’ discovery of self and the world in which they live.

We enhance the educational experiences of our students through programs and services that support academic success. We provide for fundamental needs, including shelter, nourishment, and a sense of security. We create environments that promote physical, emotional, and psychological wellness, and advance healthy lifestyles. Student Affairs builds communities, both real and virtual, that encourage inclusiveness, invite communication and add to the cultural richness of the university. We focus on personal growth for including leadership development, problem solving, career decision-making, and group learning that challenges students to work both independently and as part of a team.

Core Values

Sharing a fundamental belief in the value of Student Affairs and its ability to transform lives, we will pursue our vision by:

  • Focusing on the lifelong learning and personal growth of all members of the university community;

  • Enhancing our services by creating opportunities to collaborate with students and nurture campus-wide partnerships;

  • Conducting ourselves and our programs with the highest integrity;

  • Challenging ourselves to move beyond the status quo and pursue higher levels of excellence with determination and enthusiasm;

  • Contributing to a community that is inclusive, accessible and diverse;

  • Strengthening a tradition of quality, compassion and an unwavering belief in our students and in ourselves;

  • Demonstrating the innovation and courage to adapt to changing conditions;

  • Realizing that both vision and action are necessary for a better future.
