Asia
UT Department of Asian Studies Fellowship for Study Abroad
The Department of Asian Studies offers the following scholarships for
study abroad. Students do not need to be majors, but should plan on
participating in an organized study abroad program in Asia. Preference
is given to students interested in studying the language, but this is
not required. Applications and eligibility information can be picked
up outside the Asian Studies Office WCH 4.116 or downloaded.

POSCO Korean Study Abroad Scholarship
Freeman-Asia Grant
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time
of application. Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduates
in U.S. colleges or universities and be in good academic standing. Note:
Starting with Summer 2002 applications, graduating seniors will no longer
be eligible for Freeman-ASIA awards. Applicants must currently receive
financial aid or have verifiable need for financial assistance to study
abroad in Asia. Priority will given to students with no previous experience
in the country in which they plan to study.
Awards are available only to students who plan to study abroad in the
following countries/regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia,
Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore,
Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam. Award Amounts: summer=$3,000, semester=$5,000,
academic year=$7,000. Deadlines: For spring programs November 1, for
summer programs March 1, and for fall/academic year programs April 1.

Brazil
Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) Fellowships
The Brazil Center of LLILAS grants undegraduate and graduate students
awards of up to $4000 to study during fall or spring semesters on FIPSE Fellowships. Applicants
must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.
Applicants must have at least one year of Portuguese language training.
Deadlines: For spring programs October 15; Fall programs March 15. For

Central America, South America and Mexico
Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Travel Scholarship
Three scholarships of $5000 given out annually for study for combined
summer sessions (one and two), semester, or year. Applicants must be
Latin American Studies undergraduate students. Application materials
can be obtained from the Institute
of Latin American Studies. Check website for deadline details.
Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Undergraduate Academic Scholarships
Three scholarships of $5000 given out annually for study for combined
summer sessions (one and two), semester, or year. Applicants must be
Latin American Studies undergraduate students with a GPA 3.0 or higher.

Europe
Center for European Studies Scholarship
The Center for European Studies offers scholarships to European Studies' majors or double majors to assist in paying expenses for their study or internship abroad. Eastern Europe
The American Coucil of Learned Societies: Grants for Study
of East European Languages
Grants offered up to $2500 for intensive language programs in East European
languages. Eligible languages include Albanian, Bosnian/ Croation/ Serbian,
Bulgarian, Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithiuanian, Macedonian,
Polish, Romanian, Slovak, and Slovene. Deadline for study in the summer
2008 is January 16, 2008. Applications can be found at www.acls.org.
Egypt
The Simpson Scholarship in Egyptology for study at The American
University in Cairo
Semester or year scholarship of $2500 per semester for juniors and seniors
who enroll in the Study Abroad program at The American University in
Cairo and wish to concentrate their studies in Egytology. Deadline is
April 15 and students must have been accepted in the program before

Japan
MONBUSHO Scholarship
Annual national competition for study in Japan with required language
exam and interview. Juniors and seniors may apply for Language Grants.

Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to
apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.
Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. Scholarships
for semester programs are $2500 and $4000 for year programs. Application
deadline is early April and early October. For more information see

JASSO Scholarship
Scholarships awarded by Japanese Universities once students are accepted
on program. Scholarships cover airfare and living expenses. Please contact
the study abroad advisor for Japan for more information.
England
Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships
Graduating seniors can apply, but a degree must be completed before
being awarded. Administered by the Liberal Arts' Dean's Office. Contact

British Council USA - Scholarship Search
This detailed scholarship list is a wonderful source of information,
however, the Study Abroad Office has limited reports from students who have obtained funding

BUTEX Scholarships
This British organization is offering two scholarships of 400GBP. Students
need to submit a 300 word statement indicating how they would benefit
from the scholarship and attach this to the application found on the
BUTEX website. Funds will be distributed to the student once they have
arrived at their host school in the UK.

France
Sellstrom Scholarship for Excellence in French and Italian
Undergraduate French majors studying at the University or in a French-speaking
country who have a grade point average of 3.0 and who can demonstrate
compelling need for financial aid. Application deadline is March 15.

Undergraduate students of French and Italian languages and literature
who propose to continue their study of either language at the University
or abroad. Application deadline is March 15. Contact the Department

Germany
German Grants
Annual competition through the UT Center for Global Education Opportunities
for study and research through FGAC, DAAD, and Freiburg University.
The deadline is October 1 for all these scholarships except the DAAD
summer stipends (deadline is March 1). Contact the Study Abroad Office at 471-6490 for

Opportnities for U.S. Chemistry Undergraduates
The American Chemical Society, with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the collaboration of the DAAD, is launching a program to send U.S. undergraduates to Germany for paid summer research internships. Ghana
Woody McGriff Scholarship & Dean of Liberal Arts Scholarship
Annual UT competition limited to students accepted by the Study Abroad Office for the
reciprocal exchange with Ghana. After acceptance by SAO, contact the

Italy
French and Italian Studies Scholarship
Undergraduate students of French and Italian languages and literature
who propose to continue their study of either language at the University
or abroad. Application deadline is March 15. Contact the Department

Lemmermann Scholarship
Graduate students studying in Rome. Basic knowledge of Italian rquired.

Sweden
Austin Swedish Studies Foundation
The University of Texas Swedish Studies Excellence Endowment is pleased
to provide aid for UT students who plan to study or conduct research
in Sweden. Applicants from all academic disciplines may apply. Applicants
should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (undergraduates) or 3.5 (graduate

Study Abroad in Turkey African-American Scholarship
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) in cooperation with DiversityAbroad.com are awarding up to 50 grants per year in the amount of $2,000 for full-time African-American undergraduates who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey for a semester or a year.
