Emergency Drill in Waller Creek
What would happen if drums of chemicals accidentally got into Waller Creek in the middle of campus? That’s exactly what the scenario is for a unique emergency drill that Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will be conducting on the morning of August 30th.
UT Austin is working with the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP), as part of their National Conference taking place in Austin from August 28–31. This exciting event is a collaborative effort by several departments at UT Austin and outside agencies including the Austin Fire Department. It will take place Tuesday August 30th from 8 AM to noon in Waller Creek near the Service Building on 24th Street. The scenario involves EHS’s Emergency Response Team working to mitigate negative environmental impacts to the creek and downstream. Between 50–100 AHMP conference attendees will be observers during the simulated chemical release and response.
