Graduate Programs

Graduate Student The mission of the graduate program in the UT College of Pharmacy is to provide exemplary educational, research, and growth opportunities during a student's tenure.  The pharmacy graduate program has traditionally been among the strongest at the university.  All students graduate with a M.S. or Ph.D. in pharmacy with a specialization in one of five areas: pharmacology and toxicology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacotherapy, or health outcomes and pharmacy practice.  A new interdisciplinary Ph.D. degree in translational sciences is also available in collaboration with research laboratories in San Antonio. Depending on qualifications, most students are awarded a teaching assistantship, graduate research assistantship, fellowship or scholarship to support their work.

State-of-the-art research facilities are available for graduate education.  Laboratories are equipped with the latest instrumentation and specialized support units.  Pharmacy research space is located on campus in the two-building pharmacy complex, in the Biomedical Engineering Building, the Dell Pediatric Research Institute, and the Animal Resources Center in Austin.   In San Antonio, basic laboratory and clinical research space is available in the McDermott Building of the University of Texas Health Science Center, and at affiliated institutions.
Additional facilities for collaborative research are available in the College of Natural Sciences, the College of Engineering, the Institute for Neurosciences and the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Biology.  Students in both Austin and San Antonio have access to extensive electronic journal holdings through the University Libraries.
