How to Avoid Citations

It is not difficult to avoid parking citations. Read and follow these simple rules; they will save you money!

If You Don't Have a Permit...

...do not drive and/or park inside campus. Visitors may talk to one of the guards in the kiosks if they need help finding a place to park.

The University has eight parking garages that are open for public use on a paid basis. They are located all around campus and are outside the guard kiosks.

When Parking On Campus...

  • Carefully read the signage for the parking spot you are in. All spaces on campus require a permit. If there is no sign in front of a space, then refer to the sign at the entrance to the parking lot.

  • Watch out for spaces marked "At All Times." Citations are issued 24 hours-a-day! Other special restrictions include "A," "F," or "D" required after 4:00 p.m.

  • Do not park in spaces designated for persons with disabilities unless you have the proper permit. The University strongly supports the ADA and stiff fines are issued to cars parked illegally in these spaces.

Note: Spaces designated for persons with disabilities are so designated at all times. From 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., a State of Texas disability placard/license plate and UT "D" permit are required. After 4:00 p.m., a State of Texas disability placard/license plate is still required.

  • Be sure to properly display your permit. You will be issued a citation if the officer cannot see your permit. Instructions on how to display the permit are printed on the back.

  • Do not park against the flow of traffic.

  • Permits are only valid in certain areas. Do not park in an area marked for another permit type.

  • Do not park your car west of IH 35 overnight unless you have an "R" permit.

  • Any UT permitted vehicle may park in a Loading Zone (LZ) for 30 minutes with its emergency flashers on to load/unload.

  • "Official Visitor" spaces are for University sponsored visitors only. Other visitors are invited to park in University garages.
