Rankings

The university places a premium on outstanding instruction. Its academic programs and professional schools rank largely among the top 20 programs and schools in the country. The faculty includes members of the National Academy of Sciences, and the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as winners of Pulitzer and Nobel prizes. More than 1,000 privately funded endowed faculty positions exist at the university. Each year about 100 faculty members receive teaching excellence awards.

The Chronicle of Higher Education's 2007 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index rates faculty members’ scholarly output and compiles overall institutional rankings on 375 universities that offer the Ph.D. degree.

At the graduate level, forty-three UT programs and specialties rank in the top ten nationally. Fifty-eight others rank in the top 25.
