Graduate School/University Co-op Awards

The Graduate School coordinates annual awards programs to honor outstanding individuals. These awards are generously underwritten by the University Co-op and are presented at the annual Graduate School/University Co-op Awards Banquet or Graduate School Convocation each spring.

Professional Awards

The Outstanding Alumnus or Alumna Award was established in 1999 by the Graduate School to recognize Graduate School alumni for outstanding achievements in academic or professional careers. A $5,000 fellowship in the recipient's name is awarded to a graduate student in the program from which the award winner graduated.

The Outstanding Graduate Adviser Award was established in 1996 by the Graduate School to recognize a Graduate Adviser for exemplary service in a graduate program.   An award of $3,000 is presented to the recipient.

The Outstanding Graduate Coordinator Award was established in 1996 by the Graduate School to recognize a Graduate Coordinator for exemplary service in a graduate program. An award of $3,000 is presented to the recipient at a reception hosted by the Graduate School and the Graduate Coordinator Network in May.

The Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award was established in 1976 to honor faculty members for outstanding teaching at the graduate level and mentoring of graduate students. An award of $3,000 is presented to the recipient.

Student Awards

The Outstanding Dissertation Award was established in 1979 by the Graduate School to recognize exceptional work by doctoral students and to encourage the highest levels of scholarship, research, and writing. Three awards of $4,000 each are given annually. Nominations accepted from Graduate Studies Committee Chairs by April 1, 2010 deadline.

The Outstanding Thesis/Report Award was established in 2003 by the Graduate School to recognize exceptional work by master's students and to encourage the highest levels of scholarship, research, and writing. One award of $2,000 each are given annually. Nominations accepted from Graduate Studies Committee Chairs by April 1, 2010 deadline.

The George H. Mitchell Award for Excellence in Graduate Research was established in 2001 by the Graduate School and University Co-op to recognize outstanding master's or doctoral research that is substantially in progress.  Three awards of $2,000 each are given annually. Applications accepted from students by February 19, 2010 deadline.

The William S. Livingston Outstanding Graduate Student Academic Employee Award was established in 2004 by the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Assembly to recognize an outstanding teaching assistant, assistant instructor, and graduate research assistant.  Three awards of $2,000 each are given annually. Nominations accepted from faculty or administrative supervisors by March 5, 2010 deadline.

The Michael H. Granof Outstanding Graduate Student Award was established in 2008 to recognize the outstanding achievements of a graduate student. One award of $10,000 is given annually. Nominations accepted from Graduate Studies Committee Chairs or Graduate Advisers by April 1, 2010 deadline.
