David Garcia is the founder and CEO of one of the few drug research companies headquartered here in Texas. The CEDRA Corporation offers analytical, toxicology/pharmacology, metabolic and synthetic chemistry, as well as pharmacokinetic/statistical services.
Garcia says that graduate school was vital to his professional success. "First and foremost, graduate school at The University of Texas has provided me the technical knowledge and confidence to compete nationally and internationally as a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. My graduate education has opened doors for me that would otherwise not have been available."
Garcia is quick to point to the relationships he established during graduate school as one of the most important aspects of his education.
"I appreciate most the mentorship and friendship of Dr. Jaime N. Delgado, my major professor. He was not only concerned about my mastery of technical concepts but considered my development as a complete professional equally important. He put much emphasis on verbal and written communication, for example, which is essential for professional success."
Garcia honored his former professor by endowing a $25,000 fellowship in his name.
