Lynn F. Anderson held various teaching, research, and administrative positions with the University of Texas from 1946 until his retirement in 1997, including the directorship of the Institute of Public Affairs prior to the opening of the LBJ School in 1970. His fields of teaching and research include public management and finance, state/local/urban affairs, and health policy. In addition to his academic duties, he has been a pioneer in the development and conduct of continuing education and professional development programs for public officials. From 1970 to 1987 he served as Director of the LBJ School's Office of Conferences and Training, which conducts an array of programs for public officials and citizens.
Anderson has authored or coauthored more than seventy publications. He founded and for many years served as editor of Public Affairs Comment, the School's periodical. He has regularly held public service assignments outside the University, including consultancies to numerous governmental entities and appointments to advisory and study commissions at all levels of government. By appointment of the Supreme Court of Texas, he served a three-year term as a public member of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, an official agency of the state judiciary.
