UT Law iPhone Web App
Keep up with UT Law while on the go!
The first version of our UT Law mobile web application is now available to
anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch! (Future versions of the web app will be
more widely available on other mobile devices)
To access the web app, open Safari on your iPhone or Touch and visit the following
address:
Features
- My UT Law
Restricted to active UT Law faculty, staff, and students, this section
currently includes a directory search that makes it easy to look up contact
info in our internal Law School directory—you can place a call,
send an email, or add the info to your Contacts directly from the search
results.
Note: students that have any information marked
“confidential” will not show up in the results of this
Directory Search.
- Upcoming Events + Notices
Events listings pulled from the official
UT Law events calendar,
and current announcements from the Law Mail system.
- News Releases
The most recent press releases and event
announcements from the UT Law Communications office.
- UT Law on Twitter
Recent tweets from our official
@UTexasLaw stream.
- Maps
UT Law building
maps, maps to guide you to the Law School, a map of public parking on
campus, and a few other wayfinding guides. Some of the maps make use of
iPhone OS 3.0+'s location services to help pinpoint your current
location.
- Photos
A small selection of photos culled from our
Photo Gallery. Use the thumbnails
at the bottom of the screen to move between photos, or flick through the
images by swiping left or right with a single finger. Turn your device
sideways to view the images a bit larger.
Future plans
In the near future we will be upgrading this web app to be usable on multiple
mobile devices, not just the iPhone. We are also evaluating other new useful
features, in particular ones that are audience-specific (through the
UT EID-protected
My UT Law menu): students would have access to their own grades and
schedule, faculty would have tools that would be useful for their courses,
etc.
Also, as UT Law begins to engage with other social media tools, we will be evaluating
how to best make use of those resources within the context of this mobile web
app.
Known Limitations and Issues
At the time of this launch, there are a couple of known issues with the
web app:
- The web app currently only works on the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Other
devices may have ability to access the site, but the experience
may be less than ideal. In the near future we will be making the site
more widely available to other popular mobile devices.
- If you use the Directory Search feature and tap the Email button to send
someone an email, the web app may behave erratically when you return to it
from the Mail app. Either tap Safari's “reload” button, or hit the Add
Bookmark button, then Cancel, and the program should return to normal.
This is a known bug with mailto: links in the latest version of
Safari Mobile, with no fix available yet.
