The University of Texas at Austin

Windows Software Update Service (WSUS)

Overview

WSUS does not currently provide the Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8) update to campus computers using the ITS WSUS service. IE 8 is significantly different from earlier versions of Internet Explorer, and ITS recommends that users familiarize themselves with IE 8 before choosing to install it.

Microsoft regularly provides updates to its Windows operating system. You can obtain these updates yourself (by setting your computer to automatically update), or you can obtain these updates through the campus update service. ITS selects which service packs, critical updates, and security updates are published internally to UT servers and individual Windows computers, so you can be sure you're getting the most important updates.

Features

  • Access ITS-approved updates from Microsoft automatically
  • Departmental Windows computer users should consult with their system administrator before using this service

Cost

The Windows Software Update Service is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff.
