E-Mail Phishing Scam Being Reported

The ITS Help Desk is receiving reports of e-mails requesting information about utexas e-mail accounts. If you have received such an e-mail regarding your utexas e-mail account that requests your username and password, this is a phishing scam. Do NOT respond to the e-mail or provide any identifying information. Delete the message without clicking any links in the e-mail or responding to the e-mail in any way. Remember, the university and ITS will never ask for your password.

Phishing is a 21st century crime in which criminals attempt to steal personal information through seemingly official e-mail messages. An example phishing e-mail appears below. If you have any concerns about whether an e-mail is valid, contact the ITS Help Desk. Do NOT respond to questionable e-mail inquiries, especially those that request a password.

VERIFY YOUR UTEXES EMAIL ACCOUNT NOW

Dear utexas Email Account Owner,
This message is from utexas messaging center to all utexas email
account owners. We are currently upgrading our data base and
e-mail account
center. We are deleting all unused utexas email account to create more
space for new accounts.

To prevent your account from closing you will have to update it below
so that we will know that it’s a present used account.

CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL IDENTITY BELOW

Email Username : .......... .....
EMAIL Password : ................
Date of Birth : .................
Country or Territory : ..........

Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his or her account
within Seven days of receiving this warning will lose his or
her account
