Austin Disk Services
Project - Moving Austin Disk to a Virtual Machine
In an effort to improve the reliability of Austin Disk Services, ITS is moving the service to a Virtual Machine (VM). This new configuration offers a more distributed model that provides greater redundancy leveraging a robust virtual infrastructure. All departmental shares, bulk mounts, and individual accounts will be moved to the new VM.
Individual Austin Disk account holders will not need to take any action for this change. However, Austin Disk administrators will need to:
- Schedule a date and time for their bulk mount or departmental share account(s) to be moved. Administrators should have received an e-mail enumerating their move times.
- Check settings in Group Policy Objects, scripts, applications and other resources that access Austin Disk Services via SMB to ensure that austin.utexas.edu\disk is the specified host name.
Administrators and bulk mount/departmental share users will experience a short down time when the share is moved to the VM. To minimize interruption and ensure proper implementation, shares will be moved in small batches at predetermined times.
