Microsoft Campus Agreement Upgrade Questions
What if we are still using DOS or Windows 3.x? Can we upgrade? Should we? What about upgrading Windows 9x to Windows NT/2000?
The MSCA Desktop OS Upgrade license allows you to upgrade your current Windows OS - including DOS or Windows 3.x - to the most recent version of Windows. Please note, however, that hardware running earlier versions of Windows desktop OS may not support more recent versions.
Does the MSCA give us the option to move to new versions of the OS as they come out?
Yes. When Microsoft releases new versions of its Windows Desktop Operating Systems, students, faculty, staff, and departments can upgrade their current Operating System to the new version for the cost of media only.
When will newly released products become available?
Microsoft typically releases products for student fulfillment at approximately the same time they become available to the general public. However, neither ITS nor the Campus Computer Store can control when Microsoft makes products available for distribution.
When new releases do become available, the Campus Computer Store will post updates to their Web page, and send e-mails to customers who have elected to receive e-mail notifications.
Can I downgrade products covered under the MSCA?
Yes and No. Although the Campus Agreement does provide full downgrade licensing (previous versions of Windows), Students and Faculty/Staff Work-at-Home users can only purchase the latest version of Windows Operating Systems through their campus reseller.
Departments (but not individuals) can purchase media for previous versions through the Microsoft Select Large Account Reseller, subject to availability.
