Away for the Holidays? Use These IT Resources

For faculty and staff members who want to use campus IT resources during the winter break, Information Technology Services (ITS) provides this checklist to help you work safely and effectively when you are away from the university:

  • E-mail – Check your university e-mail account from any Internet-connected computer using Webmail. If you have a premium university e-mail account, you can access your messages and calendar by logging in to Outlook Web Access.
  • BevoWare – Update your anti-virus and anti-spyware software with free downloads of BevoWare security software and updates. The holiday season poses extra online security risks, so it is particularly important that your system meet the university’s minimum security requirements to protect yourself and your work.
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) – An Internet connection by itself won't allow you to gain access to the campus network. You need to create a secure connection using the Virtual Private Network (VPN.) The VPN works with your regular Internet connection so that you can safely access "campus only" resources safely. You can download this program from BevoWare.
  • WebSpace – Access your files from any Web browser, on or off campus, using WebSpace. In addition to accessing and sharing files online, you can now use WebSpace to safely store sensitive digital data. Every member of campus is provided 1000 megabytes (MB) of WebSpace file storage on the university network.
  • SmartVoice – If your school or department provides you with a SmartVoice account, you can call the voice mail server access number (512-471-2100) or forward your voice messages to your e-mail inbox. You can also use the remote SmartVoice Web client. This allows you to access your messages from your computer or mobile device no matter where you are, 24/7.

Note: If you have trouble accessing any of these services, check the intersession maintenance schedule. Many ITS services undergo planned maintenance during the winter break and may be temporarily unavailable.
