Configuring and Securing OS X Mail
- Open OS X Mail.
- From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
- Select the Accounts icon.
- In the bottom left corner, click the + option to create a new account.
- In the Account Information tab, enter the following information:
- Select the Account Type from the drop-down list. (Choose either IMAP or POP depending on how you want to define your account.)
- Enter a description for your account in the Description field.
- Enter your basic e-mail address in the Email Address field.
- Enter your name in the Full Name field.
- Enter mail.utexas.edu in the Incoming Mail Server field.
- Enter your e-mail name (the part of your basic e-mail address before the @ sign) in the User Name field.
- Enter the password for your e-mail account in the Password field.
- Confirm that the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is set to mail.utexas.edu, then click the Server Settings button.
- In the SMTP Server Options dialog, enter "587" in the Server port field.
- In the SMTP Server Options dialog box, check Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL).
- In the Authentication drop-down list, select Password.
- Enter your basic e-mail mailbox name in the User Name field.
- Enter your password in the Password field.
- Click OK to dismiss the SMTP Server Options dialog box.
- Close the Accounts dialog box.
NOTE:
Send a test e-mail from another account to your basic e-mail account to make sure everything works.
