Facilities Services develops and maintains an exceptional physical environment that supports the students, faculty, researchers and staff of The University of Texas at Austin. To create this environment, Facilities Services is organized in the following five divisions:
Administrative and Personnel Services
The Administrative and Personnel Services division supports the staff members of Facilities Services and Project Management and Construction Services by making sure they have strong leadership, and are well trained and safe. The division is made up of the following three sections: Personnel, Training and Safety. The Personnel section handles issues such as payroll, workers compensation, time sheets and leave management. The Training section supports employee development, and coordinates a variety of workshops that help employees learn how to provide the best service, feel confident performing daily tasks, and prepare for future responsibilities. The Safety section promotes safe, healthy work practices through employee training and awareness initiatives.
Business Services
The Business Services division provides timely accounting and purchasing assistance to Facilities Services and the entire Campus Planning and Facilities Management unit. The division is organized in two main sections: Accounting and Central Stores. The Accounting section provides services in vouchering, billing, records keeping, and financial reporting. The Central Stores section functions like a local home-improvement center, and provides purchasing, material acquisition, material issue, and warehouse operations services. Custodial Services
The Custodial Services division provides cleaning services to the university. Custodial staff is responsible for over 10.5 million square feet of building space on the main campus. This divison comprises 40% of the Facilities Services workforce. Formerly, Custodial Services was a branch of Facilities Services. On April 1, 2008, it was reorganized into a division. The services provided include floor cleaning, window washing, emptying of trash and recycling containers, dusting, wall cleaning, and chalkboard cleaning and replacement of chalk in classrooms.
Facilities Maintenance
The Facilities Maintenance division maintains, repairs, and oversees the assessment of the buildings and mechanical systems of the university. The division employs more than 180 experienced administrative personnel and technicians who respond to the heating/cooling, general repairs, preventive maintenance, and lock and key needs of the campus. To efficiently meet these needs, the division is organized into sections that have campus-wide responsibilities, and into specific zone shops and specialized maintenance shops.
Pickle Research Campus Facilities Services
The Pickle Research Campus Facilities Services division maintains the buildings, grounds, and equipment of the J. J. Pickle Research Campus (PRC), the university's premiere research facility. This division employs over 100 highly skilled and certified workers, and is organized into the following three sections: Project Planning and Management, Maintenance and Construction, and Administration and Support. PRC Facilities Services is responsible for all maintenance, renovation, construction, and landscaping on the 1.5 million square feet of the PRC. Learn more about PRC Facilities Services.
Support Services
The Support Services division is organized into three main sections: Recycling & Sustainability, Landscape Services, and Special Projects. Recycling & Sustainability Services provides the campus with surplus property services, recycling and waste collection, and furniture restoration. This group also coordinates fleet and equipment for Facilities Services. Landscape Services maintains more than 440 acres of grounds, countless plant beds and shrubs, and about 4,900 trees, while also providing litter pick up, outdoor pest control, irrigation, and street and sidewalk cleaning services. Learn more about Landscape Services. Special Projects coordinates new initiatives as assigned by the director of Facilities Services.
Other Branches of Facilities Services
