We offer a variety of resources and services for students enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin who are interested in taking a service learning course, or would like to develop their leadership skills by promoting service learning at UT.
Services offered
- Service placement: Are you enrolled in a service learning course and need to find a placement with a non-profit agency? We can help! We have connections with over 300 Austin area non-profit agencies interested in working with students;
- Service learning courses at UT: Would you like to take a service learning course? The Provost maintains a list of service learning courses being offered at UT and the requirements to get into them; and
- In a service learning course and need to find a community partner?
- Search - Locate an agency using our database
- Inform - Contact the agency's volunteer coordinator and set up a meeting. Inform him/her and make them aware that your service is for a service learning course.
- Contract - Complete the service learning contract with your service supervisor.
- Expectations - Clarify number of hours working per week, work schedule, total number of service hours to be completed by a specified date, and duties/responsibilities expected of your service. Ask your supervisor for expectations regarding appearance, office policies, and preferred means of communication.
- Safety - Know your means of transportation to service site, the location, time of day when working, supervisor, etc.
- Service
- Assignment - Keep in mind the assignments for your course as you go to your service site and work. Do you need to be keeping daily/weekly reflections? Do you have one major paper due at the end of the semester? Keeping this in mind while you serve will make your course work much easier to complete.
