Computer Training Lab receives $65,000 upgrade
through TCC/ITS partnership
AUSTIN, Texas University of Texas at Austin students, faculty, staff, and the general public can now benefit from an upgraded, state-of-the-art Computer Training Lab in the Joe C. Thompson Conference Center (TCC), thanks to a $65,000 investment by the University's Information Technology Services (ITS). The investment symbolizes the long-standing computer training partnership between TCC and ITS.
TCC Director Wayne C. Hunt reports that ITS recently purchased and installed new Dell Optiplex desktop computers with ergonomic flat screen monitors; new software, including Windows XP and the Macromedia MX Suite; and networking upgrades for the TCC Computer Training Lab.
"Our Computer Training Lab has undergone a complete renovation," Hunt said. "The new equipment and capabilities will allow us to expand our computer training into advanced areas of network administration."
Morgan Watkins, director of ITS User Services, added that the renovation exemplifies the University's commitment to extend leading-edge educational and technological resources to previously unserved populations. "The upgraded equipment enables us to bring a new level of computing power to people who may not have had access to this level of advanced technology in the past," commented Watkins.
The TCC/ITS partnership, which began in 1987, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary as the premier provider of computer training on The University of Texas at Austin campus. To date, more than 25,000 participants have enrolled in 2,195 computer classes at TCC. ITS provides the computers, instruction, and curriculum, and TCC provides the training facility and marketing/registration services.
