LAITS Third Friday: Technology in the Classroom
Date: November 21
Location: Mezes Hall Basement Auditorium (B0.306)
Time: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Interested in seeing how university faculty and staff use technology in teaching? Come to Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services (LAITS) Third Friday to see and talk about how faculty have put technology to work in and out of the classroom. Each month two or three presentations are followed by open discussion.
This month, Travis Brown and Kate Beutner, graduate students in the English department, will discuss the eCommentary Machine, or "eComma." The eComma application was designed for collaborative word-level textual annotation in a wide range of contexts, including undergraduate classrooms, community reading groups and scholarly editing projects. Brown and Beutner will discuss the current prototype, explain some of the features that distinguish eComma from similar text management applications and discuss the future of the project.
Following the lecture, Jim Henson, executive director of the Texas Politics Project, will present new developments in the Texas Politics online textbook. Updates include a newly designed content management system which allows for easier content delivery by site developers, and the addition of new statistics and data, including recent results from a statewide Texas Poll in collaboration with the Government department.
Third Friday presentations are a conglomerate of technology projects developed by staff and faculty members from LAITS, the Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment, and the College of Liberal Arts.
