New Military Deferments as of July 1, 2008

Recent legislative action involving the Perkins loan program has added two important changes to the military deferment provisions for members of the Armed Forces, National Guard, and retired members:

  • Military Service Deferment—loan payments can be deferred for periods of mobilization plus 180 days. There is no limit for these periods of deferment. Submit a copy of your mobilization orders toour office.
  • Active Duty Deferment—If you are currently enrolled in an eligible postsecondary school or were enrolled within six months of being activated, your loan payments can be deferred. This provision also applies to National Guard members who are activated by the state under federal approval or under state statue or policy.

For more information, please see Deferments or call 512-475-7779, opt. 3.

Loans Autopay is now available to pay your loan payment automatically each month. Please see Payment Options or call 512-475-7779, option 3 for more information.

Loan payments can no longer be made over the phone. Please see Payment Options for details.

Loan Interest 1098-E forms are mailed by Jan. 31 of each year to borrowers who paid $600 or more in student loan interest during the previous year. This is interest paid on tuition loans, emergency loans, and Federal Perkins loans.
